History section and Rivals

[edit]

I created a Wikipedia account because I thought the 'History' section on this article could be improved - at the moment, the Football League section goes into too much detail on some seasons and not enough details on others.

Also, I don't think the 'Rivals' section is very accurate because despite being geographically close, Yeovil are not rivals with Swindon or Bournemouth, especially since they are no longer in the same league. I think a 'Fans' section which would then explain about the rivalry with Weymouth and Bristol clubs would be more appropriate.

I will aim to make these changes in the next few days unless there are any strong objections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bestteamwest (talkcontribs) 21:06, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Away Kit

[edit]

Where's all the giant killing stuff? There's a huge jump here between 1946 and Graham Roberts! Come on you Yeovil fans, jump to it so all of us non-Yeovil fans can really learn something! Please?

The picture of the strips needs changing please, there is a new away kit for this season (see link: [1]).

Added in a bit of history of the YTFC page. Yini3

Could the idiot who keeps putting Scott Guyett back in the squad list please stop, he is in the loans out list so no need to stick him in twice.

Along with Plymouth Argyle, they are in a minority of English clubs to play in a largely green strip. Even so, for the 2003/2004 season they play mostly in white with green stripes.

Why say the same thing twice? This could be better written. Bold text

Fair use rationale for Image:Yeovil Town Crest.png

[edit]

Image:Yeovil Town Crest.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

References and "notable" former players

[edit]

I've added references for various of the claims on this article & removed the refimprove banner (although more would be nice) but note there is still a banner on ""Former players asking for consensus on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Could the experts here agree who should be included (& why) & then remove that banner?— Rod talk 14:59, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The fan sites need to be removed from the External links subsection per WP:ELNO. "Links to blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for biographies)." Previously, the guideline allowed for one but it is typically easiest to remove them all so so there isn't a pissing contest and it is hard to determine the best.Cptnono (talk) 11:47, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Because footballsite.co.uk is not a bad link for information on the club, but it should be removed. You need think past the negatives. If you want to help, clean up the article. It's not brilliant by any means. Govvy (talk) 13:02, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't like that at all, #87. To tell you the truth: The only reason I created a log in was to gain access to editing the Newcastle article. I thought Newcastle Mad deserved to be listed with the others and needed a log in to make the edit since it was a protected page. Eventually, someone removed it (it stood for awhile and I think traffic to the site actually spiked because of it) and they were right to do so. I did not realize it then but it is simply against the rules and there is reasoning. Make Yeovil a badass page and have fun but someone noticed the fan site listings and brought it to the attention of the larger community. I seriously feel for you and hope you aren't too pissed off.Cptnono (talk) 13:05, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

that site is nothing to do with me, you can remove it if you want. Govvy (talk) 13:26, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why is this turning into chickenlittle BS? There is no reason for fans to get stressed out about Wikipeida. Chill out. The match report external link might fly (I think I kept that in when I deleted the others but am not sure). Open a beer and chat about improving the article instead of worrying about censorship. Talk as much shit as you want on political articles but let the sports ones be fun at least.Cptnono (talk) 13:27, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
heh, Spurs lost yesterday, so I am probably in a little bit of a funny mood. But I like to monitor this article as Yeovil have loaned 3 of our players! I need to stop now, this is sounding forum'ish. Govvy (talk) 13:36, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hometown won tonight so maybe that is why I am in a good (drunk) mood. I've noticed that besides the FOOTY project clamping down on stubs, sports articles can be fun to edit without any boohooing so hopefully everyone is OK. Oops... not a forum and 7:00 am. Time for bed!Cptnono (talk) 13:42, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

International Representatives

[edit]

i have changed the title of this section as i felt it didnt really tell you what these players did. (Insert:Please sign your posts) Posted by: Allie cabab (Talk) 21:15, 25 October 2009

I think I am going to revert that title, you should add a paragraph description to explain it, not change the title. Anyway I will go a head and do that. Govvy (talk) 21:32, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

when did yeovil start wearing the hoops and have they any links with celtic —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.35.210.252 (talk) 19:15, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of 'rivals'

[edit]

The section titled "List of 'rivals'" has a banner on it saying that it lacks references. Also I am unclear as to what the inclusion criteria is for this list - aren't all the teams they play against rivals? I think the section should be removed unless it is made clear why these teams are included and references provided.— Rod talk 09:47, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've now removed this. If it is put back please give a clear inclusion criteria and citations.— Rod talk 13:24, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Tone" banner

[edit]

A banner has been added to this article saying "This article's tone or style may not reflect the encyclopedic tone used on Wikipedia". I do not feel this is justified and would like to remove the banner but what do others think?— Rod talk 20:59, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I will read through and make copyedits as I go (please revert if I accidentally change the meaning!). I'll jot queries below....Casliber (talk · contribs) 04:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In 1907 the name Yeovil Town was adopted, which on amalgamation with Petters United became Yeovil and Petters United - I'm confused - did they become Yeovil Town first and then later Yeovil and Petters United? In which case when (and why) did they then revert..
Yeovil were formed as Yeovil Casuals in 1895 then the name was changed in 1907 to Yeovil Town, which was also when a green & white strip. Then following the rise of another club in the town 'Petters United' (who were founded in 1908) the two clubs merged prior to WW1 in 1914. The name was then dropped after WW2 and the club reverted to simply Yeovil Town.
The Non-League football section is smaller than the Reaching the Football League - I concede it was a less notable time overall but makes up more than 90% of their history. More info on times they did top the non-league and why they didn't get accepted into the football league would be a good start. Also any long term notable players.
I think there needs to be much more depth to the history section of the article but unfortunately I do not have the time at the moment to make this expansion. For a decent evaluation of Yeovil's history this independent fan's site presents a good overview of the club's history up until 1990/91. http://www.ciderspace.co.uk/ASP/history/history.asp
AFC Bournemouth could also be seen as current rivals due to their relatively close geographical proximity compared to other League One clubs. - this isn't sourced - it sounds a bit hypothetical. Has it been proposed elsewhere?
I would agree it sounds rather hypothetical, in all honesty Yeovil do not have any strong rivals in the Football League, the clubs two strongest historic rivals are Weymouth and Hereford United, and possibly Bath City. I feel the entire rivals section needs overhauling but I am unsure how to edit it possibly amalgamate it into a section about 'Supporters' as a whole.
In August 2009 they played Exeter City for the first time in the league. The game ended 1–1. - the article doesn't explain why this might be significant (though it is obviously because they are neighbours) - has this been discussed elsewhere?
I recall it was discussed briefly before the game, although it wasn't the first competitive meeting between the sides, the clubs had met in the FA Cup in 1934 and in the Western Counties Floodlit League in the 60s. I am unsure as to whether it merits an inclusion in the article.

I hope some of my comments will help with your attempts to improve the article. In my opinion the article is a long way off good article standard, and am unsure as to why it has been put up for review. The article needs much more depth in the history section and perhaps include a section on the grounds. If you are needing any assistance please don't hesitate to ask me. Ytfc23 (talk) 12:54, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just looked through the history as I thought you'd nominated it, but now I see that it was someone who hasn't contributed to the article. My assessment aligns with yours over what needs doing. Now that we're both here, I am happy to leave this review open for a month or so if that gives you enough time to improve it (I am happy to copyedit and point out things as well as rejig material as a reviewer) which is achievable, however if you are busy for this period and cannot devote the time...or would just rather spend time not on a deadline and improve it as much as possible before review, I am happy to not promote it for the time being and will keep an eye out for it being renominated (football clubs are generally popular review targets at GAN!). Either way is ok by me. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:35, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update - I have failed this GAN as the main contributor is busy and there is no active improvement currently. On the up side, it's prety clear what needs to be done, so has a pathway to a successful GAN in the future. Best of luck, I'll be happy to re-review when renominated. Additional citations banner

[edit]

A couple of years ago a banner saying "This article needs additional citations..." was added to this article. Is it still needed? Can anyone help add citations or perhaps this should be removed and specific citation needed tags used where claims are unverified.— Rod talk 20:43, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The club has won dozens of honours so I would suggest creating the above page to list them in their entirety, leaving the top 3 league honours + the FA trophy win on the main article.--EchetusXe 10:55, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(belatedly) parent page is only 11kb of prose, but I have no strong opinion really - weakly recommend status quo unless significantly expanded. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 08:44, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
